About

Bison Farm cabin in a very secluded section toward the back side of a 300 acre working bison farm. This is a tiny home Park Model with 400 sq. ft. The kitchen has a full size stove / oven, a microwave, a full size refrigerator and freezer. Note: bison rotate pastures daily. It is most likely that they will be roaming on other pastures than the one near your cabin.

Good to know

Booking of this cabin is allowed for up to 3 months from now. If you are interested in a date that is further than 3 months from now, please set a reminder to come back and book it as it opens up. When you see it unavailable more than 3 months from now, that just means that it is not yet open and available for booking and scheduling. There is a fold-down couch with a mattress pad and bedding that can be used for a small person or a couple of small children in the living room, but the cabin is small and most suited to a couple. This is only 42 wide x 65 long. There is no laundry in the cabin, but there are laundry facilities in the crew lounge up at the main house that can be used. The wifi is a 5G service and works well for web browsing, social media, music and video streaming, and to support the TV in the cabin. It is not good for video and facetime calls. The cabin is not handicap accessible.

Other Details to Note

We recommend that you have a car that can handle the gravel road, some hills and small ruts. A couple of gates are involved in the route to the cabin. Our farm is a working farm with a full crew around and available during the daytime work hours. Check in at the Bison Store at at the front of the farm and get guidance on where to find the cabin, walking trails and bison viewing locations.

House Rules

Every gate that you open during your visit here, must be closed by you the moment that you pass through that gate. Never leave a gate open that you unlatched. This is critical. We have Great Pyrenees dogs working on the farm that are not contained. They will sometimes accompany you back to the cabin to say hi, especially if you have a dog. They are super friendly to people and dogs, and not dangerous in any way. Please help us keep them safe. None of your guest visitors, should you have any, are allowed to drive past the front gate. If you have guests you must come to the front gate to pick them up, and you must accompany guests on the property at all times. Air conditioning is not to be left on with the door or windows open, nor when leaving the cabin. The systems work very quickly to cool down the cabin upon return. You are going to be staying on an active commercial bison farm that participates in agritourism under Virginia law, which provides the following legal warning: Under Virginia law, there is no liability for an injury to or death of a participant in an agritourism activity conducted at this agritourism location if such injury or death results from the inherent risks of the agritourism activity. Inherent risks of agritourism activities include, among others, risks of injury inherent to land, equipment, and animals, as well as the potential for you to act in a negligent manner that may contribute to your injury or death. You are assuming the risk of participating in this agritourism activity.

Cibola Farms is a working bison farm doing business in the DC region as Virginia Bison Co. There are about 250 bison that rotate in 2-3 herds across the property and it should be noted that this cabin is located within this working bison operation and special care should be taken when traveling across the property by car or on foot as it pertains to gates and safety. The retail store is stocked with all cuts of bison meat and the cabin is equipped with a working kitchen and BBQ. If interested in any bison meats, please be sure to shop Wed-Sun 9-5 before the store closes, and if lodging on Mon/Tues, then contact us for access to any meat supplies during the day. Self-guided trails and pasture walks are available after you check in with the crew for the location and movement of bison herds.

Guest Access

The cabin is located about a mile back from the front of the farm along a gravel road with hills. It is accessible with any vehicle. If you are coming for a winter-stay: the roadway access could be an issue during snow or ice conditions. Note that if a snow or ice condition comes along, we will alert you in advance of any issues to discuss options.

Find us

Culpeper Town is just 5 miles away, a pre-civil war town that has a lot to do, especially on Davis Street, just East of Main Street, including lots of shops, restaurants, history and entertainment. The town of Sperryville is just 20 minutes north on 522 and has a distillery, brewery, 9-hold golf course, shops, restaurants, history. Shenandoah National Park entrance is 10 minutes further up from Sperryville with hundreds of hiking trails. There are 15 wineries in a 20 mile radius of the farm. Luray Caverns is 35 miles from the farm. Old Rag Mountain for rock climbing and hiking is just 35 minutes from the farm with amazing views and a visitors lodge. Charlottesville with Jefferson's Monticello is 45 minutes south on Route 29; Madison's Montpelier in Orange is 30 miles to the south on Route 15; Washington, DC and Mt. Vernon are 90 minutes North on Route 66.
